Steve Polansky, the author of cognitivequitting, smoked for 35 years, about a pack a day. After many failed attempts, he finally quit smoking on March 15th of 1996. In the years since, he's talked to thousands of smokers and quitters in quit smoking venues all over the internet.

In August of 2004, Steve was certified as a Tobacco Treatment Specialist by the Arizona Department of Health Services Tobacco Education & Prevention Program and The University of Arizona HealthCare Partnership having demonstrated "the skills necessary to provide intensive services for individuals trying to quit tobacco".

The cognitivequitting program has grown out of his quit experience and that of many others.

When Steve isn't online, he can often be found flying kites (his other passion)
